Five Night Kitchen

Use what you have

Measure plain tahini before loosening a cold sauce or bean filling

Reserve paste from the jar before adding lemon or water. A drizzle for roasted cauliflower needs a different finished consistency from slaw filling or fork-mashed hummus, even though each starts with plain tahini.

Measure the part you can use

Weigh plain ready-to-use tahini paste before mixing it with lemon, drinking water or chickpeas. The selected two-serving dinners use 30g for the cauliflower tray, 35g for chickpea slaw and 30g for hummus wraps: 95g total. With 60g available, the gap is 35g. An example 300g jar supplies that gap and leaves 265g of new paste unassigned. Check the actual jar weight and label; this is not a spoon-to-gram conversion or a recommendation to use the whole jar.

Choose the texture you want

Loosen a drizzle beside the roast

For the cauliflower tray, mix its 30g tahini with the recipe’s lemon juice in a separate bowl while the tray and couscous finish. Add cool processing water a spoonful at a time until pourable. The recipe notes that the paste may tighten before loosening. Drizzle over the plated dinner; do not put the cold sauce through the roasting stage or count it as couscous hydration water.

Keep slaw filling thick enough to hold

The slaw uses 35g paste stirred into partly mashed, well-drained chickpeas with lemon and seasoning. Add cool drinking water only as needed for a spreadable filling that holds on a spoon. Fold in the dry shredded vegetables and the recipe’s separate sesame seeds near dinner. A pourable tray sauce would make a different filling and can leave the wraps wet.

Mash the hummus before judging its water

For roast carrot wraps, thoroughly mash the measured chickpeas with 30g tahini, lemon and finely minced garlic. Use the full recipe’s small additions of cold drinking water until the hummus is thick and spreadable. A fork gives a coarser result than a smooth manufactured spread; continue mashing whole chickpeas rather than pouring in water to hide lumps. Keep hummus separate while the carrots roast.

When the result is not quite right

Check whether the product is plain tahini or an already diluted dressing with additional ingredients. Finished sauce weight includes lemon and water and cannot be entered again as unused tahini. Use the consistency check for the particular dish; tightening during mixing does not by itself mean the paste needs oil, extra tahini or a replacement batch.

Allocate your plain tahini

The week opens with its own saved settings. Add your stock there to deduct it from the full shopping list.

Keep and prepare your stock

Follow the actual jar’s storage, use-by and after-opening instructions. Keep prepared cold sauces and bean fillings under their complete recipe’s refrigeration and ingredient limits. A new allocation or more added water does not restart the opening date or create a longer storage window.

Avoid this mix-up

Reference tahini contains sesame, so it remains a sesame ingredient even when diluted into a pale sauce. Read actual ingredients, allergen declarations and relevant cross-contact information. It is not a sesame-excluded substitute for yogurt, and a completed allocation does not certify allergy suitability.

Use the storage guide for prepared batches, and follow actual product labels. Our recipe and quantity checks are not a real cooking trial.
